Writing Memoir Workshop
Every person carries a story they need to tell, but many struggle to find its shape and give it voice. Join me, author, professor of writing, and TEDx speaker, for a cozy afternoon together where we will share some tea, and I'll read a few excerpts from my award-winning memoir, Uprooted: A Memoir of Belonging and Becoming (Regal House Publishing 2026) and then guide you through a hands-on workshop that covers the basics of getting your story out of your head and onto the page. You need not consider yourself a writer or even have a specific project in mind to benefit from this workshop.
Live Discussion with Prof. Anne Marie on substack @MidLifeU
What if the story you’ve kept inside is the very one that could save you?
In this talk, Dr. Sarah Long shares how an email from a stranger, who turned out to be her biological sister, launched her into a year of cascading loss: a broken engagement, a bipolar II diagnosis, a farm sold, and a birth mother she'd never meet. Working the Pennebaker Protocol kept her alive and transformed rumination and trauma into healing and a memoir.
Drawing on neuroscience research and her own memoir Uprooted (Regal House Publishing, July 2026), Sarah reveals what happens in the brain when we move from "this happened to me" to "this happened because" and offers a simple, evidence-based practice anyone can use to turn their unprocessed trauma into the soil where resilience can grow.
